50 Exposed...Only Shot 3 Times

I ran across this tidbit on another blog. I'm not really one to speak on disposable news, but I couldn't pass this one up. Apparently, research has shown that 50 Cent was only shot 3 times, as opposed to the 9 times that he so heavily claims. Check out the above police report and article written on 5/14/2000 (before the 50 Cent campaign began) confirming him getting shot only 3 times.

Now don't get me wrong-- getting shot once is bad enough, but there is a big difference between getting hit 3 times vs. 9 times. In a culture dominated by street credibility, I guess 50 Cent (who borrowed the name from a deceased neighborhood hitman of the same name) wanted to capitalize off of the experience and use the bigger number for marketing purposes. It worked!

What baffles me, however, is how he has become wildly successful by rapping about shooting and killing more people in the streets than Rambo, yet he's famous for being a victim of gunfire and not actually really shooting anybody. Seems a little ironic to me.

I guess to that kid in surburbia, it's really neato to go on a ghetto safari by purchasing a glossy, celophane-wrapped record of a real, live crack dealer from da streets whose "bullets will splatter your brains all over the sidewalk." Not to mention the fact that he was shot 9 times! Wow! He's REALLY Hard!

Hey guys...how about everybody come over to my house this weekend. We'll shoot each other once, tell everybody that we were shot 6 times, and then become rappers!

Who's with me????

50 cents shot 9 times. That good marketing. "A cat has 9 lives" Ja Rule should have taken notes before his career got derailed

I just thought it was common knowledge that 50 and most in his industry lie like rugs.

This is not lying... its good marketing to the sheep (I meant the masses)

this some good old fashioned marketing based on lies. Welcome to the U.S. of A.

LOL...I'm down! That's so funny, because it reminds me of the Ganstalicious episode of the Boondocks...if you've never seen it, check it out. That's crazy the things that makes a person 'cool'.

Its not just the USA, its human nature to want to be told a believable or not so believable story. Its more romantic than the reality of life and the way the world works.

Hell just look at any history book. It is written by the winner. 50 didn't die, so he propery marketed his situation which made him millions.

Nah, this is some American ish. No other country glorifies hip hop/ghetto life like us.

wow. after watching that movie of his... get rich or die trying, i thought i had the "real" scoop on his life. damn shame you have to lie about being shot multiple times to have adequate street cred just to sell a record.

Should anyone be surprised? Show business is all about selling an illusion to anyone that will buy.

Have you seen this new book, dvd and movie called "The Secret?" She's making billions telling people to think, imagine and visualize there way into whatever situation they want to be in. Skinny, rich, healthy, married, whatever. She has simply packaged positive affirmation into a slick marketing campaign and people are falling all over themselves to buy it. People don't care what it is, they just want to be fascinated.

...like magic.

The secret is a great book, they are laws to live by.

You attract what you are... Not what you want.

Gene ~ OTHER countries just don't have the money or star power to put their "ghetto" people on MTV. If their was a market for rich execs to make money on the ghetto's of other countries they would.

Oh thats right we have the italian MAFIA, you have the SOUTH AMERICAN drug trade and AFRICA blood diamonds so I guess they are pimpin them out too

"If their was a market for rich execs to make money on the ghetto's of other countries they would."

I doubt that. But I guess we'll never really know.

I can't speak about how the mafia and drug trade is perceived in Italy and Colombia, but I doubt the cultures are glorified by well-off, white surbanites the way hip hop culture is by Americans.

South Africans do not glorify the diamond trade.

I haven't read the Secret, but I hear it's only saying what's already been said. I guess I can't hate too much for someone reinventing the wheel if people still need wheels.

50 Cent happened to Ja Rule. He clowned him for being an R&B artist and not a rapper...then proceeded to become an R&B artist by singing all of his hooks... like Ja Rule.

I actually saw some pics of Ja Rule at a Grammy part earlier this year. He had a lil S curl.

I wonder what he says when folks say, "Man whatchu been up to?"
