XXX Church: The Porno Pastors

No... that's not the name of the newest adult movie. There is actually a new movement to covert people in the adult film community, and those addicted to porn, to Christianity through a new church called XXX Church.

When I heard about it this morning on the radio I thought it was a sick joke, but this is a legitimate movement.

Apparently the Church's founders (both Divinity School graduates) travel to porn conventions across the county and set up shop right between the Golden Shower and Bang Bus booths *snare drum roll*...

Seriously though, they attend these conventions and pass out their quick-read version of the Bible called "Jesus Loves Porn Stars" to spread the Word.

Other functions that they hold include events called Porn and Pancakes, PornSundays (which is currently held at 200 traditional churches around the country), and a college tour where they debate the ills of pornography with porn-legend Ron Jeremy.

In addition to this, they host a website called xxxchurch.com where they offer support and guidance to those that want to leave the adult industry and those who are addicted to pornography.

As you can imagine, they are receiving a lot of heat from traditional religious groups around the country about their methods of gaining Converts. They argue that this venture is blasphemous and directly conflicts with God's intentions. But does it really?

I admit that I thought this was ridiculous, but I actually went to the site's message board and was surprised to find that people are actually taking it seriously. As absurd as it sounds, shouldn't they be applauded for going out and converting those who are living in sin? It's easy to criticize from the pew, but isn't it harder to go out into the trenches and do the dirty work?

Check out the above clip of the interview they did with ABC News.

What do you think?

That is very controversial, but at the same time Jesus met people where they were and talked to them at their level and was able to reach them. Is there a difference between this and a prison ministry? Many contemporary gospel artists use beats from secular songs, but it works as a way to get people to listen to gospel music. I can't knock these guys for bringinig people to Jesus and delivering them from that industry.

I totally respect them for taking on the challange. Growing up in the church, going to a private christian school my whole life the church definately fails in the area of sex. Its something that we just sweep under the rug of spirituality. I applaud their efforts. LIFE hit it on the head you must meet people were they are and lead them.

Brandon, what you know about Bang Bus?! But I digress ...

On the real, this is NECESSARY! There is an ex-stripper in Las Vegas who has a simliar ministry. She and her girls buy lap dances from strippers and take them in the back and minister to them instead.

As unconventional as it may sound, it is what Christianity is about (Matthew 28:18-20). Christ went out "among them" to spread his message, because he understood that some folks were never going to come to an 11:00 service. Honestly, the only way to expose some non-believers to Christianity is to go where they are (i.e. the porn conventions).

Now I don't think I have the strength to do it - I mean I used to have a hard time giving "holy" hugs to women with they close ON! And now I'm posed to hug a butt naked woman!? RIIIIIIIIIGHT. - but I support those who believe this is what God has called them too.

Confessional: I am already familiar with this movement b/c of my own personal... struggles.

I DEFINITELY think it's needed. Our culture is lust crazy. I used to go to xxxchurch.com on the regular when my issues were at their height.

Note: I'm going to post under anonymous just in case my students ever trace this post.

Why?????? You wanna know why??????

Actually, I don't wanna say because there's no way I could and it sound right. But, I will say porn/sex are both highly addictive. And addicts need all the help they can get.

Sexual/pornographic addictions are still taboo topics that no one really wants to address. Well, the porn industry acknowledges them (addictions) and makes billions of dollars off of them. And I guess other people don't want to address the topic because they partly enjoy their addictions.

I don't watch porn like that, but LOL @ Gene for recognizing that "the bus rolls on." That's fuuunnnn-ty and degrading all the same. lol.

That's what's up @ anonymous. I guess too much of anything can make you an addict, and porn is no exception.

I think it's cool that these guys came up with the concept and put it out there. Apparently it works.

co-sign @ Gene about possibly not having the strength to take on that responsiblity. I wonder if they are at risk of going too deep tho? *no pun intended* It would be ashamed if the convertors became the converted.

The converting can easily cum...come the converted. I was at the strip club trying to convert these two young ladies... LOL

anonymous.... soooooo many people are addicted to this industry. People see an image and they like it and after a while they get used to that image. However, the mind craves more and more images of this stuff. These images make people feel good for a short while. I feel like it's best for people to not introduce that into their lives or marriages. So I was talking to this guy and I told him my views on premarital relations. He felt that if I wasn't going to give it to him then he needed that stuff. He also said that he needs it after he gets married because he needs variety and it's better than cheating on his wife. I just felt like he was opening the door for an addiction. He didn't see my point. I didn't see his either.

Porn is actually a big cause of divorce. We were talking about it in marriage ministry on Sunday. Many women consider it cheating. And many men are heavily distracted by it. It's not joke. And it's one of those "problems" that rarely gets addressed because many don't consider it a problem.

Gene, your right women do consider it cheating. But more than that it gives men and women warbed views of what good sex is. Your average man or women can not live up to someone that sex is their profession.

Others could argue that it can give you new ideas of position and other little nuggets of good information that can improve your sex life. How are you suppose to learn something that its nasty to watch or talk about?

Ignorance: Has anyone seen the new trailer for the Kim Khardeshian sex tape. Learned some new stuff. LOL
