One of My Favorite Songs of All Time, But...
...I'll give a dollar to ANYBODY who can tell me what the hell they are saying on the hook. I've been trying to figure this out for 12 years. ..."Relax yourself girl, piece of clam??????"
Man, I have no idea what they're saying... I didn't even watch the video, but when I saw your interpretation I knew exactly what song you were talking about. I'ma try to find the original sample and listen to that..
I've heard that interpretation too anointed, but there's no "cl" in "down." It sounds like "clam" or "plan" ...an I'm just not hearing the "settle."
But along the same lines, I've never been able to decipher the woman singing "Martiiiiin" on the intro of the TV Show Martin. I always thought they were singing "Happyyyyyyyy....Happyyyyyyy!" Yes. I'm foolish.

I found the musical sample for the song, but couldn't find the vocal. I'm convinced that the hook is something Ali just mixed together. Like, I want it to make sense, but I can't hear please settle down, either.

DAMN! That actually sounds like what the dude is saying and kinda makes sense. You have just made it more complicated because you have offered another viable alternative to "please settle down."
My only question is how do you go from telling her to calm down to saying "I'm out fellas! I'm gonna get atcha later." And who calls their boys clan except for the RZA, the GZA, Ol Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef...U-God, Ghostface Killah and the Method...MAN!

I'd always thought it was "Relax yourself girl, you're a piece of the clan" like he was telling the girl she was in a place where she was safe or something.
